Why Tustin Homeowners Choose Toto Construction
Tustin Toto service means something specific to us: we’re the contractor you call when a Toto washlet stops spraying, a Drake keeps ghost-flushing after a remodel, or you’re planning a bathroom where a one-piece Toto has to fit a tight layout. We work on and around these fixtures every day as an independent contractor, not an authorized Toto dealer, and we spec the plumbing, electrical, and rough-in so the Toto product performs the way it was designed to. That’s the difference. Anyone can swap a toilet. Fewer people know why a Toto behaves the way it does and how to make it right without voiding the warranty.
Noel Quintero has been taking apart Toto fill valves and control boards since the early 2000s, when he was running residential remodels across central Orange County. Tustin’s housing stock keeps us busy with this exact work: mid-century ranch homes off Red Hill Avenue and the surrounding blocks still have their original 1960s plumbing, and newer builds near the old MCAS base bring a different set of rough-in challenges. We also get calls for Toto in North Tustin. Call (833) 467-4091 when a Toto fixture is misbehaving or you want one installed correctly the first time.
Why Trust Ashbury Contractors for Your Toto Construction?
We’re not a plumbing company that happens to know one toilet brand. We’re a full-scope general contractor that remodels bathrooms, converts tubs to showers, installs walk-in showers, and sets every fixture in place. That means we see Toto products in the context of the whole room: the flange location, the supply valve, the GFCI circuit, the tile, the vanity clearance. A dripping Toto model isn’t just a toilet problem. It’s a bathroom problem, and we diagnose it that way.
Noel grew up off Red Hill Avenue in Tustin, and he spent his twenties working through every phase of residential construction after training in the construction technology program at Santiago Canyon College. That experience matters when we’re resetting a flange on a 1968 ranch slab, or when we’re fishing a dedicated circuit through a lath-and-plaster wall so a Washlet gets the power it’s supposed to have. “Build it right the first time or you’ll be explaining yourself twice” isn’t a slogan around here. It’s how we quote, how we rough in, and how we finish.
We use genuine Toto parts when the failure is inside the Toto system: fill valves, flush valves, washlet control components, mounting hardware. We use quality aftermarket parts only where Toto doesn’t make a relevant line item, like supply stops or wax rings, and only when they perform identically. Never a knockoff that “looks close enough.”

Common Toto Construction Problems We Fix in Tustin
Most of the Toto calls we take in Tustin fall into a few patterns. Here’s what actually goes wrong, and why:
- Washlet weak spray or blinking error lights on S550e / S750e seats. Tustin water is hard. The inline filter on a Toto washlet clogs, the spray nozzles accumulate scale, and the flow sensor or heater circuit throws an error. We see this constantly in older ranch homes where the water softener was installed in the 1990s or doesn’t exist. It’s rarely the entire seat that failed. It’s a clogged filter, a scaled flow meter, or a control board misreading the resistance. We test before we replace, because a new S550e is not a $50 fix and we’re not going to sell you one if a filter and descaling routine solve the problem.
- Ghost-flush or constant running on Drake and Drake II models (CST743, CST453). The canister flush valve seal warps or collects sediment, water seeps from tank to bowl, and the fill valve cycles every ten minutes. Homeowners notice the sound first, then the water bill. After a remodel, a ghost-flushing Drake is sometimes misattributed to a bad wax ring because there’s moisture at the base. It’s not always the seal at the floor. It’s the flush valve gasket quietly letting water by.
- Rocking and base leaks on Ultramax and Vespin one-piece toilets. A one-piece Toto is heavy. If the rough-in was not set perfectly, or the flange is short, or the original mounting bolts are rusted, the toilet rocks slightly. That rocking breaks the wax seal over time, and water wicks under the tile. In Tustin’s older slab foundations, a short flange callout is common, and the floor itself may not be dead level. We reset the flange, shim properly, and use a new seal. Then the toilet sits still.
- Washlet electrical integration issues during remodels. Homeowners buy a Toto washlet seat and expect it to work where the old seat was. It won’t, not safely, if there’s no GFCI-protected outlet behind the toilet. We see extension cords run across vanities, cords stuffed under baseboards, and outlets hanging loose because a previous handyman tapped the wrong circuit. In a room with water everywhere, that’s not something we’ll leave. We run a dedicated GFCI circuit during the remodel, before tile goes up.
- Fill valve seepage on older Toto models in mid-century homes. The original 1960s copper supply lines in Tustin ranches were never sized for today’s code, and old stop valves fail closed when you need them to open. When we open the wall on a bathroom remodel off Red Hill Avenue, we find fill valve bodies connected with deteriorating supply risers. The Toto toilet may be fine; the supporting plumbing isn’t. We address both so the new fixture isn’t installed on a tired, failing line.
Toto Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
Here’s how we make the repair-or-replace call. If the failure is in a Toto-specific component – a washlet filter assembly, a control board, a flush valve, the fill valve inside the tank – we install genuine Toto parts. Not equivalent, not “will fit.” Genuine. The tolerances on these fixtures are tight, and substituting an aftermarket fill valve on a Drake II changes the refill ratio and can cause exactly the ghost-flush problem we’re trying to fix. We’ve seen people chase a water-bill spike for months after a handyman put in a generic valve.
If the failing part is outside the Toto system – a supply stop, a braided supply line, a wax or synthetic wax-free seal, a closet flange, mounting bolts and anchors – we’ll use quality aftermarket parts from the same manufacturer lines we install elsewhere in the home, like Brasstech or Oatey. Those are infrastructure, not Toto engineering, and the right universal part performs identically.
When a tank is cracked, when the tank-to-bowl juncture has rusted on a one-piece model, or when a washlet control board has failed and replacement costs 70% of a new seat, we say so. We’re not going to sell you a repair that buys six months. We’ll show you the numbers and let you decide, but our recommendation will be honest. If you’re weighing options, call (833) 467-4091 and explain what’s happening. We’ll tell you upfront whether it’s a fix or a replacement conversation.
Our Toto Service Process – Step by Step
We follow the same disciplined process on every Toto service or install, whether it’s a fill valve swap or a full bathroom remodel with a washlet integrated into the layout:
- 1
Diagnosis. We inspect the fixture, the supply, the flange, and the electrical (if a washlet is involved). For spray or heating errors, we test the filter, the flow path, and the control board readings before recommending any parts. No guessing.
- 2
Repair or installation. Genuine Toto parts when the fix is internal; quality aftermarket only for infrastructure. If we’re setting a one-piece or integrating a washlet, we verify the flange height and level before mounting, not after.
- 3
Testing. Flush cycle count, refill timing, spray pressure, heating, leak check at base and supply. A Toto tank should be silent when it’s full. If it’s not, we keep working.
- 4
Warranty and handoff. We walk you through what was done, what to watch for, and we stand behind the workmanship. Manufacturer warranties on Toto parts remain yours; our labor is our own responsibility.

AfterToto Products We Service & Install in Tustin
We work on the full range of Toto residential fixtures and seats you’re most likely to have in a Tustin home. The Drake and Drake II gravity toilets (CST743, CST453) are the ones we reset and re-seal most often in mid-century bathrooms. The Ultramax and Vespin one-piece lines show up in newer remodels and in homes near the former MCAS base where designers specified them for the clean look. Washlet seats and integrated units like the S550e, S750e, and the older G-series plus EcoPower models are the electrical and control-board calls. We handle all of them: Irvine Toto service too, plus repair, rough-in, relocation, new install during a remodel. When you need a tub-to-shower conversion in Tustin and want the Toto to stay in place, we’ll build the layout around it and retrofit the plumbing to match.
We Also Service These Brands
Toto is one brand we know well, but we’re not a single-label shop. The same bathroom remodel might include Kohler fixtures, KraftMaid cabinetry, a Cambria or Silestone quartz countertop, and a Toto toilet sitting under a Toto washlet. One contractor, every trade, from the foundation to the fence line. We spec the products first, then the quote follows.
FAQs – Toto Construction Service in Tustin
It’s usually the filter or the flow path before it’s the board, especially with Tustin’s hard water. The inline filter clogs, the spray nozzles scale, and the sensor triggers an error. We test the filter and flow first, and if the board is genuinely failed, we tell you the cost difference between board replacement and a new seat. Call (833) 467-4091 and describe the light pattern; that often narrows it down before we even arrive.
Yes. A washlet needs a grounded, GFCI-protected outlet on its own circuit. In older Tustin homes, that outlet doesn’t exist behind the toilet, and we’ll add it during the remodel, before the tile and drywall go in. Running an extension cord or tapping a nearby vanity circuit isn’t safe and won’t pass inspection in Tustin.
The canister flush valve seal isn’t holding, or the fill valve isn’t shutting off completely. Water seeps from tank to bowl, the level drops, and the valve cycles. On a remodel, sometimes debris from the water shutoff gets into the fill valve and prevents a clean close. We replace the flush valve seal or the fill valve with a genuine Toto part, and the running stops.
You can relocate it, but it’s real work. The drain pipe moves, the flange gets set to the correct height, and on a slab foundation, that means cutting concrete. We do this on remodels where the layout has to change. For a tub-to-shower conversion, sometimes we keep the toilet where it is and shift the shower footprint instead, which saves you money without compromising the design. Call (833) 467-4091 for a site look; we’ll tell you which approach makes sense before you commit to anything.
Yes, and we spec it often. The round-bowl Drake II and the Vespin have compact footprints that work in tight Tustin bathrooms. When we’re converting a tub to a walk-in shower and the toilet has to shift a few inches, the dimensions matter more than most people expect. We measure rough-in and floor clearance before we recommend a model, so you don’t end up with a knee against the vanity door.
That depends on whether we’re repairing a Toto fixture or remodeling the whole bathroom around one. Here are the Tustin market ranges for the work we do alongside Toto repair in Santa Ana and Toto fixture installation:
| Service | Typical Tustin Range |
|---|---|
| Bathroom Remodel | $9,000 – $28,000 |
| Small Bathroom Remodel | $5,000 – $12,000 |
| Walk-In Shower Installation | $4,500 – $12,000 |
| Tub-to-Shower Conversion | $3,500 – $10,000 |
| Shower Replacement | $3,000 – $8,500 |
| Bathroom Vanity Installation | $800 – $3,000 |
We just finished a full bathroom remodel in Tustin where the homeowner wanted to keep her Ultramax one-piece but add a washlet. That meant a dedicated GFCI circuit, and during demo we found the fill valve seeping and the toilet rocking. We reset the flange, replaced the fill valve with a Toto part, and tied the washlet into the new circuit. No ghost-flush, no water at the base after tile and fixtures went back in. That’s the job done right. For an exact quote on your project, call (833) 467-4091 – estimates are free.
